Victoria (Seychelles) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 50th Independence Day celebrations of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to participate in the island nation’s Independence Day celebrations.
The event also marked 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two countries.
To commemorate the twin milestones, contingents of the Indian Armed Forces took part in the national parade held in Victoria. The Indian contingent included personnel from the Assam Rifles, the Indian Navy, and an Indian Navy Marching Band, reflecting the close defence cooperation and longstanding strategic ties between India and Seychelles.
As part of the commemorative events and in keeping with established tradition, Indian naval ships INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak docked at Port Victoria, symbolising the strong maritime partnership shared by the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the golden jubilee celebrations highlighted the depth of the India-Seychelles relationship and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors, including defence, maritime security and regional development.
